Keeping You In Shape
The Importance Of Maintenance
When you are budgeting for a new website the cost of ongoing maintenance can easily be overlooked. There are two elements to consider.
Firstly it is important to keep your website’s software up to date. I work in WordPress and it will typically need updating twice a year. You will have other software on your site depending on the functionality you requite. This too will need updating. If software is not updated it can pose a security risk.
Secondly you will need to update your content. In some cases this may be minor changes only; but if you want to develop a successful web presence you will almost certainly need to create new content. This is probably the single most important thing you can do to improve your Google rankings.
Do It Yourself
One of the great things about WordPress is that it is quite easy to self-manage.
I often say that if you can mange a Facebook page then you can manage a WordPress website – or at least add new news items and edit pages.
I will provide you with some basic instructions to cover everyday eventualities together with a comprehensive manual for anyone interested in delving deeper into WordPress.
Leave It To Me
I am more than willing to provide services to manage and update your site if required.
- The basic level of maintenance – the updating of software – is included in any website that I provide for the first year. I will also continue to undertake these updates as long as your site is hosted by me. If your site is hosted elsewhere the updates will cost £50 per annum.
- My standard maintenance package includes the updating of software and minor amendments to the site. This can include adding blog posts (you will still be responsible for writing them), uploading photos and any changes to the site such as creating new pages. This package costs £250 per annum and buys you up to one hour of my time per month. After that any changes will be charged at an hourly rate of £30. This package does include some extras. I will undertake a review of your site each year and recommend to you areas for improvement. This could be in respect of content and layout but may be about new software that could benefit your work. I will also provide reports, as required, on visitor traffic to your site. You will be able to access these online if you so wish.
